Coronavirus Patients Need to Be Tested for Bacteria and Fungi as well

The author of the OpEd,  “COVID-19 Patients Need to Be Tested for Bacteria and Fungi, not just the Coronavirus” stresses that many COVID-19 patients develop secondary infections.  These infections include bacterial pneumonia and/or sepsis.  There is a mounting need for rapid detection of the most common causes of bacterial lower respiratory tract infections subsequent to an initial viral respiratory infection.  This will help avoid unnecessary and misdirected treatments with antibiotics.
