Banana leaf wilt disease- the threat to bananas is real
This USAID news article from Feed the Future highlights three crop diseases that may well impact global food security. From these and additional threats to the world’s food supply, the U.S. Government Global Food Security Research Strategy was developed to recognize that it is critical to address hunger and malnutrition around the world. These diseases, Banana leaf wilt disease, coffee rust, and wheat & grain blast disease are all caused by fungi that Trana has examined and have solutions to finding a cure for each. This is not through a broad-spectrum fungicide that might harm soil and plant microbiomes, but selective antifungal agents that kill only the fungus of concern.
