LAPD officers being treated for typhoid fever, typhus-like symptoms

First responders (police officers) in Los Angeles have now come down with typhoid fever and another to typhus-like symptoms.  Both diseases can be caused by fleas and ticks that carry the disease-causing bacteria.  Typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella typhi bacteria is rare in the US, but like typhus, caused by Rickettsia sp. bacteria, Los Angeles has had recent outbreaks in the county courthouse and this has caused alarm.
